Accidents and breakdowns:
We operate a 24 hour on-road care system. Problems encountered with the vehicle or equipment must be reported to Pacific Horizon as soon as practicable. This gives us the opportunity to rectify the problem within the rental period. Failure to do so will compromise any claim that may eventuate after the hire is finished. Retrospective claims will not be accepted for any New Zealand Campervan rentals. The liability of Pacific Horizon Ltd, or its agents, is restricted to either replacing your vehicle with a similar one, or refunding your hire charge for any days you lose the total use (not just partial) of the vehicle. Minor repairs (when client is not at fault) up to NZ$100 may be made without authorisation and will be reimbursed. Amounts above NZ$100 require approval from Pacific Horizon On-Road Care.
One way hires:
We have 4 client service centres allowing one-way hires at no extra cost (subject to date/rental duration restrictions). You must start and finish your hire at whichever terminal is nominated on your rental agreement. Change of destination must be authorised by us and a relocation fee of up to NZ$750 will apply.

Hire period:
Minimum is 5 days. Collect from 8 am onwards on your first day of hire and return no later than 5pm on the last day. Days of hire are calculated on the number of actual calendar days you have the campervan. Minimum length of hire is subject to change in peak periods (i.e. school holidays and Christmas). The minimum length of hire is subject to change without prior notice.
Short hires:
Short Hires of 4 days or less are sometimes available. Distance travelled is limited to 250Km per day. For hires of 4 days or less an additional $50 cleaning fee will apply.
Pacific Premium:
For a charge of $12 per day we will guarantee a motorhome of 18 months or less (since the date of the vehicles first hire).
In the event that a previously booked and confirmed Pacific Premium vehicle is not available Pacific Horizon will:
- Refund the NZ$12 per day for the hire period, and
- Compensate you with a further $10 per day for every day that we do not provide a Pacific Premium vehicle.
The Pacific Premium payment of $12 per day is payable on all days of the hire, including any free days that are calculated as part of a special. All rates are subject to change without notification.
Pets:
Are not permitted in any Campervan.
Driver’s license:
Hirer and driver must be over 21 years of age and produce a valid driver’s license. As per New Zealand law, for a foreign drivers licence to be considered valid it must be accompanied by an English translation completed by a Land Transport approved agency. Failure to produce such a translation may result in the non-release of the vehicle. In such cases no refund is applicable.
Driving your Campervan:
The speed limit on the open road is 100 kph (60 mph). 80 kph is the recommended limit for your Campervan. For the 4 Berth and 6 Berth, the legal speed limit is 90kph. In built-up areas the limit is 50 kph (30 mph).
Driving fines:
If you are fined or penalised for breaching any traffic or parking laws, you are liable for the fine and/or associated administration costs.
Booking deposit:
To secure a reservation, we require a non refundable NZ$250 deposit.
Balance:
The balance of the hire will be deducted from your credit card 28 days before your hire commences, unless there is a cancellation or other arrangements have been made.
Cancellation:
The NZ$250 deposit is forfeited if bookings are cancelled after they have been confirmed.
Cancellation fees are as follows:
- If cancelled 26 days or more prior to vehilce pickup - No charge
- If cancelled 25 - 8 days prior to vehilce pickup - 20% of Net tariff
- If cancelled 7 - 1 days prior to vehilce pickup - 50% of Net tariff
- No Show or cancelled on day of pickup - 100% of Net tariff
- Fees will be charged as of date of cancellation
No refunds for cancellations made after travel has commenced or for early termination of contracted end travel date.
Major Credit Cards accepted: Mastercard, Visa, Amex and Diners Club.
Prices may be subject to change due to factors beyond the control of Pacific Horizon. Any changes in price affecting a client between the time of booking and payment received will be advised immediately. The company takes no responsibility for any detention, delay, loss, damage or injury that a hirer might experience no matter how it is caused or by whom. The company’s rental agreement is the sole contract for hiring the vehicle, between the company and the hirer and passenger(s). No refunds are payable on accommodation, or Campervans not being available, where a hirer or passenger amends, cancels or seeks to vary agreements after departure. These conditions cannot be varied, altered or waived by any employee, agent or representative of the company or by anyone providing services or facilities.
The company cannot be bound by any representative or statement unless it is confirmed in writing by the company’s directors or management. Your travel agent will forward deposits and other payments to us on your behalf, but your travel agent is not our agent for the purpose of the receipt of monies. The company reserves the right to provide a comparably high standard vehicle where a booked vehicle becomes unavailable through servicing or reasons beyond their control.

Booking Amendments:
Alterations to a booking incur a $20 fee per amendment. In the case of a booking extension this fee will be waived
